We got to know this dog very well since she had been at the shelter for close to six months. She definately lived up to her namesake and was one of the sweetest dogs you will ever meet. This was one of the dogs that really made myself and my wife fall in love with pit bulls. She would crawl up onto your lap and nuzzle in for a hug with you. Of course she had that classic Pit bull smile.
It was a bit of a mystery why such a great dog wasn’t adopted sooner. Partially, it may have been because of her energy whenever she would get out of her kennel to meet someone. It was intimidating to the average person who might be concerned with their preconceptions of the breed to begin with. So many people met with Sweet Pea, but chose other dogs.
This was the first time we brought one of the shelter dogs into the Rogister home for an overnight visit. Sweet Pea had a wonderful time. She had a bath, went for a roller blade, swam in the ocean and got to hang out with our dog Scout all day long.
In the end Sweet Pea was adopted into a family with another dog and is now a great member of a big happy family.
